Course Map

The 10K race will start near City Hall in downtown Athens, Georgia.  The race course is below!

Packet Pick-Up: Packet Pick-up will be on Friday, February 15th from 6:00pm-9:00pm at Academy Sports & Outdoors on Atlanta Highway (3505 Atlanta Highway  Athens, GA 30606). Come pick up your race number, t-shirt, and packet and hang out with the fun folks from Community Connection. You can even support Academy Sports & Outdoors by picking up any last minute race gear while you’re there! Registration will also be available at packet pick-up if you have friends or family who are interested in participating and haven’t registered by that point. If you would like to have someone else pick up your race packet on Friday, please email me letting me know your name and the name of the person who is authorized to pick up your materials.

Packet pick-up and registration for the 10K will also be available on race day near the finish line area between 6:30am and 7:30am.

You will need your photo ID for race packet pick-up.

Post-race refreshments: Earth Fare will provide bananas and bagels at the finish line.   We will also have Jittery Joe’s coffee and bottled water.  These refreshments are for the race participants only.

Gear Check: We will have an area near the finish line for gear check for 10K runners. Your race bib will have a tear off section with your bib number on it. Please use the bag given to you at packet pick-up or bring your own bag to hold your belongings. Your bag will be marked with your tear-off and stored at the gear check area for the duration of the race. You must retrieve your bag while still wearing your race bib number to confirm identification. Please note that the Taste 10K organizers are NOT responsible for items left in the gear check section.

Parking: We encourage all participants and volunteers to walk to the race or park in outlying areas as many of the downtown streets will be closed or partially blocked during the race. For guidance, please view the course map http://www.TasteOfAthens.com/Taste10k/info.

Starting and Finish Line: The start line will be near City Hall onWashington Street.  The finish line will be in front of City Hall onCollege Avenue.  The 10k begins at 8:00am.  Staging will begin on College  Avenue between Washington Street and Hancock Avenue.

Facilities:  Port-a-johns will be available near the starting/finish line area only.

Race Pace: While we welcome runners of all ages and abilities, we do just want everyone to be informed that the course markings for the 10K race  will be in place for all runners who run under a 12 min/mile pace. Cones and other course markers may already be picked up if you are running or walking slower than that pace. You will be permitted to complete the race, however.

Water Stations: Water stations for the 10K race will be located just after the 2.5-mile mark and just before the 5-mile mark. Only water will be available at these stations.

Safety during race: In consideration of the safety of all involved, we ask that pets and strollers not be permitted in the 10K race.  If you would like to run with headphones on, please only use one earbud or keep the volume low enough that you are able to hear other noises such as traffic or instructions from a race official.

Taste of Athens: Please consider joining us on February 17th, 2013 from 5:00pm-8:00pm for “A Taste of Athens”. Enjoy samples from over 50 restaurants and beverage vendors local to Athens, GA!

Taste of Athens Combo Ticket Packages: If you purchase a Taste of Athens Combo, your tickets will be emailed to you separately.

Results and Photos: We will hold a 10K awards ceremony directly following the race, recognizing the top 3 male and female runners in each age group. Results will be posted on  http://www.tasteofathens.com/taste10k/results. All 10K race photos will be available on http://TasteOfAthens.com/photos.
